Roger-Quilliot Art Museum

Located in the Place Louis-Deteix, in the historic Montferrand district, the Roger Quilliot Art Museum is located in a section of the former Ursuline convent, built in the XVIII century and now registered as an historic monument. The Roger Quilliot Art Museum was created on this site in 1992, bring together the various municipal fine art collections.

History

2,000 works (paintings, sculptures, furniture and objets d’art) are presented chronologically, over 6,000 square metres. They show a panorama of the history of European art from the Middle Ages up to the XX century. The architectural design chosen by the architects Claude Gaillard and Adrien Fainsilber allows plenty of light. The first thing the visitor notices is the central atrium designed by Peter Rice which gives access to both the permanent and temporary exhibition spaces. The museum’s appeal lies in the symbiosis between the XVIII century architecture and the modernity of the solutions chosen for the museum’s presentation space.
