Blaise PascalReception Area

  • History of science: an evocation of the scientific greats, the first mechanical calculators (the Pascalinas) and portraits of Pascal and of his sisters, the Lavoisier mineralogy collection, Pasteur’s visit to Clermont.
  • Natural history: a giant amethyst, plants with healing properties, the Jardin Lecoq sea lion and even a badger which can be touched.

Mezzanine

  • General geology: geology of all sizes and the different types of rock.
  • Regional geology: the area’s rocks, an animated model of a volcano and the geological map of the Massif Central.

First floor: the Auvergne

  • Regional mineralogy: fluoride and its use, amethyst, volcanic minerals.
  • Auvergne natural surroundings: displays with sound presenting flora and fauna in context.
  • Regional palaeontology: Auvergne through time.

Second floor

  • General mineralogy: an interactive model showing the geographic origin of gemstones, the search for gold and diamonds, fluorescent minerals, the use of minerals.
  • Exotic zoology: Fauna and reptiles from the five continents.
  • The marine world and how a shark sees its prey.
